My name is Aaron Burk aka Burkthedesigner and the following is a summary of my life, aspirations and abilities; in other words, an "About me". Welcome and thank you for reading.
I am a Software Engineer and Graphic Designer. I live in Minneapolis today, but life began in a small town in Iowa where I spent my elementary years as the class clown. I was sporty, loved to draw, loved to laugh and despite my comedic contributions to the classroom, I was chosen to be apart of a small group they dubbed the "Talented And Gifted". Three students were pulled out of the classroom occasionally to work on other projects and eventually the three of us wrote and illustrated a book exploring mathematics from A to Z. Back then G for Google was a 1 followed by 100 zeros and nothing more. This was my first glimpse into the world of "freelance".
In the summer of 5th grade I moved to a suburb of Chicago. It was a new environment with new prospects. I made new friends, continued to draw and fell further in love with math - every technique, every equation, they were building blocks in my problem solving arsenal. I sang and played trumpet – I had done both in that small town in Iowa but here it was different. It meant travelling to perform, it meant commitment.
After high school I enrolled at Luther College back in Iowa. No one from my class of 600 or so had chosen this destination; it was another new experience much like that summer of 5th grade. My childhood self still dreamed of cartooning one day but, at my older brother’s suggestion, I declared a Computer Science major with no prior experience and scholastically my love for math quickly took a back seat.
I graduated from Luther College with a major in Computer Science and minors in Art and Mathematics having already accepted a positon as a Software Engineer in Minneapolis, MN (where I am today). I love technology, but the freedom to make something, be creative and problem solve is why I develop software and why I still make art.
I am always creating and experimenting - driven to grow and learn. Feel free to contact me, I enjoy discussing new opportunities and I am adding to my life story every day.
